FREJA KIRK
Freja Kirk is an artist who embraces and explores the fundamental human longing and struggle to find one's identity – in body, gender, among friends, in grief, and in desire. This is something she manages to channel and nuance through her honest and soulful pop songs.
After releasing music in English for a decade, Freja released her first Danish-language single in 2024, titled “Hvad skal man kalde én som mig” (What should one call someone like me). The song, which addresses being caught in the gray area between man and woman, received significant attention across a wide range of the Danish media landscape and impressively kickstarted the pop star's new artistic direction in her native language.
Kirk’s ability to communicate in Danish was further emphasized in the follow-up single “Man Kunne Græde Oceaner” (One Could Weep Oceans), and in the interpretation of Anne Linnet's “Hils Din Mor” (Say Hi to Your Mother), alongside the Swedish rap and LGBTQ icon Silvana Imam and Linnet herself.
Music as Freja's outlet has always been on the cards. She grew up with a musical father and started playing drums and singing at an early age. In record stores, she found her sound in Erykah Badu, Missy Elliott, and Aaliyah – an eternal inspiration that has shaped her soulful, R&B-inspired expression since her breakthrough in 2014 and into her new Danish universe.
